4. With My Eyes Closed

by Larry Tagg

When a record label expressed some interest in a collaboration, Lyle Workman and I resolved to do some songs together after the "Nearly Human" Todd tours. This was my first offering, a quiet song to my wife. I was listening to a lot of "The Blue Nile" at the time. Lyle pretty much engineered it at his house; he left the room and I sang it, alone with the mike, with the "record" button in one hand.

Sometimes I see better with my eyes closed
Sometimes I see farther when I'm looking at what's near to me
Lying here knowing that you'll answer if I call your name--
That's forever all in one moment
Sometimes I can see better with my eyes closed
Sometimes I feel closer when you're far away
Sometimes all this distance helps me see you much more clearly
Waiting and hoping that you're waiting and hoping, too--
That's my love all in one moment
Sometimes I can see better with my eyes closed
Sometimes I can see forever with my eyes closed
Even in the dark of night I would know if you were in trouble
Like a mother and child, I would hear you calling
Larry -- lead & harmony vocals, bass, keyboards, and percussion
Lyle Workman -- guitars
Georgio Francis -- drums

Lyle's house by Lyle Workman, and
