7. Make a Map of You

by Larry Tagg

From the "homage to Joni" collection, here's a song that was written during an infatuation.

I went to a redwood forest, and high up on a tree
Was a poster of a mountain man who might have ceased to be
And he might have left some crummy job to find a new frontier
But looking at that face, I couldn't find a trace of me there in that pioneer
	'Cause I'm a city slicker
	I'm a close-to-home-sticker
But not when I think about you, baby
'Cause you bring out my pioneer spirit
I'm lost where the wild things are with nothing to fear
It's all I think about doing--explore this love and make a map of you
Every time I think of leaving for some place I haven't been
I've got a line and a hook somewhere in me and I'm tethered to familiar things
I feel like such a timid soul but not when the lights are low
I want to sing a simple song and hear your natives hum along
I want to go where no one else has dared to go
	'Cause I'm a stay-in-bedder
	I'm a cozy sweater
And my wheels they follow the same old grooves, baby
But you bring out my pioneer spirit
I'm lost where the wild things are with nothing to fear
It's all I think about doing--explore this love and make a map of you
I want to plant my friendly flag on your lonely magnetic poles
I want to find the source of the Nile where the crocodiles they guard your soul
I want to climb your mountain passes
I want to swim your sea
I want to find your secret fastness and hold it fast to me
And if I meet the man in warpaint, I hope he'll let me near to hear my voice
'Cause I can make the noises that your wild thing wants to hear
