It seems to me that all good things must perish
It seems to me that all good things must die
Love may come, but love will always leave me
It seems that only loneliness is mine

And it hurts so bad sometimes
Yes it hurts so bad sometimes
A feeling that I have inside is empty
And it hurts so bad sometimes

I can't forget the nights I spend without you
I can't forget these nights are coming still
Pleasure come from thinking you'll be with me
I can't forget that you never will

And it hurts so bad sometimes
Yes it hurts so bad sometimes
A feeling that I have inside is empty
And it hurts so bad sometimes

I ask you to be my wife
I ask you to share my life
But you say no
And I don't know where to go

And it hurts so bad sometimes
Yes it hurts so bad sometimes
A feeling that I have inside is empty
And it hurts so bad sometimes

It seems to me that all good things must perish
It seems to me that all good things must die
Love may come, but love will always leave me
It seems that only loneliness is mine

And it hurts so bad sometimes
Yes it hurts so bad sometimes
A feeling that I have inside is empty
And it hurts so bad sometimes

Commentary
Written November 16 & 17, 1973. My friend Jeff Schnaidt (RIP) and I recorded a version of this on February 25, 1974, with me on twelve-string and singing, and he on electric with some overdubbing. It turned out sounding pretty good, but my cassette recording (using a microphone) of the original reel-to-reel recording is pretty bad. Somewhere in Jeff's stuff is that original tape. His son might still have it.
