    Ole Anderson
Originally named Ole Andersen, he changed his name to Oscar Anderson in Australia.

[Bio written by Barry Anderson, with minor edits]

After Ole was confirmed, he went to sea at about the age of 15. He was on the 2 masted schooner "Omerpaska" (1879-1881) until shipwrecked in the North Sea. He then served on the 3 master barque "Expedit" (1822-?). Altogether he was shipwrecked 3 times. Later while he was working with the coast guard, he was attacked by a Portuguese/American with a knife, being stabbed in the neck & blinded in his left eye. He traveled with the Merchant Navy to Queensland where he worked as a diver on the Clarence River laying piles for the Clarence River Sugar Company. Whilst in Qld he owned & raced horses. He again joined the Merchant Navy around 1905 & worked on coastal freighters from Melbourne until about 1916. On the 3rd of April 1906 he became a naturalized Australian & his name was changed to Oscar Anderson. He married "Helda" on September 12th 1907. From about 1917-1942 he worked as a stevedore at Port Melbourne & Victoria Docks. On one occasion after a winch tore 2 fingers from his hand, he walked to hospital to have the wound stitched, then walked home again arriving at 3 A.M. He retired from work at the age of 78 & received the pension until his death in 1948 aged 84.
