Stephen J. Dado, 63, of Chippewa Falls, formerly of East Chicago, passed away Friday, Jan. 2, 2009.

He was U.S. Marine veteran in Vietnam. He was in the Battle for the Rock Pile and the siege of Khe Sanh. Stephen received the national defense medal, the Vietnam service medal, Vietnam campaign medal with device, 3 presidential unit citations and the good conduct medal. He was a member of the Khe Sanh Veteran’s Association, the Disabled American Veterans and the Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 856.

He is survived by: his daughter Debra (Ray) Clayton; three grandchildren, Gaby, Jaiden and Nadia; mother Mary Dado; sisters, Rosemary (Anthony) Salczynski, Barbara (Cesar) Morales, Helen (late Tony) Olton, Elizabeth (Fernando) Martinez, Joan (Gus) Guerrero; brothers, Robert (Rose) Dado and John Dado; brother-in-law William Friant; numerous nieces and nephews; dear friend, Roger Dressel; and Dale Schick.

He was preceded in death by: father Steve; sister Catherine Friant; and niece Starr Martinez.

He was laid to rest at Chapel Lawn Memorial Garden in Schererville, Ind. on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

He is survived by his daughter, Debra (Ray) Clayton; three grandchildren: Gaby, Jaiden and Nadia; mother, Mary Dado; sisters: Rosemary, (Anthony) Salczynski; Barbara (Cesar) Morales, Helen (late Tony) Olton, Elizabeth (Fernando) Martinez, Joan (Gus) Guerrero; brothers, Robert (Rose) Dado and John Dado; brother-in-law, William Friant; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear friend Rodger Dressler. Preceded in death by his father, Steve; sister, Catherine Friant; and niece, Starr Martinez. Funeral service will be held Wednesday January 7, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. directly at St. Anthony Nursing Home Chapel with Rev. Myron Lowicz officiating. At rest, Chapel Lawn Memorial Garden in Schererville, IN. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Tuesday from 2:00-8:00 p.m., Lincoln Ridge Funeral Home, 7607 W. Lincoln Highway, Schererville, IN (RT. 30 East of Cline avenue). Stephen was a former employee of Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. and a veteran of the U.S. Marines during Viet Nam Era and Croation Fraternal Union Lodge 856.

Possibly daughter of Stephen Dado, Jr and Lillian Seat. First marriage.

Debra Ann Dado and Fred Nicholas Zwoll were married in St. James in Highland. A reception was held at the Hellenic Center in Merrillville. Mr. and Mrs. Fred N. Zwoll spent their honeymoon in Mexico. They will live in Merrillville.

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. William H. Cranor of Highland and Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Zwoll of Highland.

The bride is a graduate of Highland High School and Indiana University Northwest and is employed at the Lake County Juvenile Detention Center. The bridegroom is a graduate of Highland High School and Wyoming Technical Institute and is employed at Georges' Amoco in Crown Point.

Denise Penman was the matron of honor and Ron Bremer the best man.
