You sit there, you wonder, you wonder if I'm singing for you
You sit there, you tremble, you wish that you only knew

Yes, I'm singing this song for you
So sing along, just us two
Yes, I'm singing this song for you
And I love you

You knew me, I knew you, but we didn't know each other
I saw you, I loved you, but you were always with another

And I'm singing this song for you
So sing along just us two
Yes, I'm singing this song for you
Do you love me, too?

I lie awake at night
I think of you 'til daylight
I want to be with you
With you by my side
There is nothing to hide
So let me be with you

And I'm singing this song for you
So sing along just us two
Yes, I'm singing this song for you
Do you love me, too?

Commentary
Written February 2, 1973. Another song of unrequited love, this time about a girl named Linda that used to come into the grocery store where I worked. The line "but you were always with another" was originally something like "you were always with your brother."
